What would happen if everyone in Atlanta were reading the same book at the same time? The Big Read, a program sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, encourages us to find out. Designed to revitalize the role of reading in American culture and bring the power of literature into the lives of its citizens, The Big Read brings communities together to read, discuss and celebrate great writing. This year’s month-long Big Read initiative promotes Zora Neale Hurston’s classic novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God.

One of the most important works of twentieth-century American literature, Zora Neale Hurston’s beloved 1937 classic is an enduring Southern love story sparkling with wit, beauty, and heartfelt wisdom.
